Why VR?

I’d say why not? The average executive spends sixteen years in meetings during his life. Not only is this figure significant (bearing in mind that the average time spent in a meeting in France is around 69 minutes, which does not always represent a sign of productivity), but it also doesn’t take into account some additional parameters such as travel time or any other unforeseen factors related to a meeting, which often require prior preparation (correct dress code, mental preparation in case of stress, etc.).

VR is nowadays a real and effective alternative — more than ever in the current unfortunate context of containment — considering its numerous technical improvements since its industrial beginnings in the world of video games at the beginning of the 1980s. As a result, it can be used in professional settings today, and the somewhat whimsical aspect — inherent to this development in the video game industry — makes the professional experience even more fascinating, innovative and comfortable in order to provide all the necessary conditions to carry out a professional meeting in optimal conditions.

The main point of attention (but not for long)

Furthermore, from my point of view, the main current challenges to massive VR adoption — which should nevertheless develop in many sectors — is that the user experience of the guest (the one who does not necessarily own an RV helmet but who wants to have a meeting with the one who does) and more precisely when he enters this closed ecosystem to join his colleague in the dedicated VR environment, must necessarily make some prior installations (see explanations at the end of this article to meet me in VR).

We could also mention some improvements concerning software or some bugs that can happen in some applications but as it is mainly about software improvements these will be very quickly corrected in my opinion (it is hardware problems that are more complex to correct in reality).

Setting up virtual reality for an existing organization

Experimenting VR on an individual scale remains rather limited in order to fully exploit its potential. Therefore, I have structured the implementation of a new VR division within our KRYPTOSPHERE® project: use for weekly internal meetings, for conferences and meetings (two per month), creation of specific social networks to allow access for all to our VR video contents, etc. This helped the project to considerably expand its new online community called the “ KRYPTOSPHERE® Community “. For more information, visit the page I created for my project (live VR).

Conclusion

Finally, VR is not a full replacement for the centuries-old physical meetings but rather, a new effective and highly relevant alternative specifically for the younger generations who see a real interest in VR when it comes to productivity, accessibility and ease of use.It is also important to realize that VR could be — proportionately speaking — a means of “dodging or even social isolation” for some people who may tend to prefer only virtual meetings in order to escape the social pressure that a meeting can create. Thus, it should be kept in mind that easy solutions are rarely lasting solutions.

One thing is certain: within 5 years VR will become a new major vector for managing — virtually — professional relations with a real-life immersion.
